Frequently Asked Questions
● What is the deadline for submitting the grant application?
○ The deadline for submitting your application is 24th January 2025.
● What are the eligibility criteria for applying for the grant?
○ Applicants must be teams, collectives, organizations, companies based in Kenya.
○ Applicants must have pre-ideated projects that need support to produce prototypes or demos or have projects that are at an advanced stage and need support for finalization and market access.
○ Projects should be feasible and demonstrate clear market potential.
○ Applicants should be in a position to complete the projects within a period of 6 months and showcase them at the end of the 6 months period.
● What types of projects are eligible for funding under this grant?
○ Pre-ideated projects that need support to produce prototypes or demos and projects already under development and need support to finalize and launch, that fall under the following categories: animation, webtoons, graphic novels, video games, immersive media (XR), music and sound design.
● What is the maximum funding amount that can be expected from the grant?
○ Financial support will range from 1,000,000 KE to 2,000,000 KE.
● In what currency will the grant be distributed?
○ The grant funds will be disbursed to successful applicants in Kenya Shillings.
○ Successful applicants will be required to open or hold dedicated KShs bank account for the funds.
● Will the funds be allocated in one go?
○ No, the funds will be disbursed in three instalments: 50% upon signing the contract in March 2025, 30% three months later in June, and 20% upon completion of the project in October 2025.
● Are there any specific reporting requirements after receiving the grant?
○ Yes, successful applicants will be required to submit a financial and narrative report half way through the project before the second instalment is disbursed and a final financial and narrative report before disbursement of the remaining 20%.
○ Templates and reporting guidelines will be provided to guide successful applicants on how to create reports.
○ Give the project partners access to the full complement of financial information, transaction data, supporting documents for control and audit purposes.
● Can the grant funds be used for multiple phases of the project or only specific aspects?
○ The grant funds can be used for all activities that involve production, distribution and administration of the project (admin costs, equipment rental, stipends, market access, etc.)
● Are there any restrictions on the use of grant funds for certain expenses or activities?
○ Funds are restricted to production, distribution and administration expenses.
● Is there a specific timeframe within which the project needs to be completed?
○ This project is set for execution between March and October 2025.
○ A project workplan is required to be uploaded in the application.
● Can grant funds be used for international collaborations?
○ Yes, international collaborations are possible, as long as the lead partner is Kenyan.
● Is it possible to put in more than one application?
○ No. Only one application per applicant.
● Can I use AI in my project?
○ Yes, there is no limitation to using creative tools.
● Is there any age limit to apply?
○ No, there is no age limit to submit a project.

● Does my project have to be completed within the indicated timeline?
○ Yes. All project activities funded by the grant must be completed between March and October 2024.
● Does this grant allow for co-financing?
○ Yes, you may combine the grant with other funding sources. For accountability and reporting purposes, the grant funds will have to be held in a separate dedicated bank account.
● What is the format of the pitch process?
○ Applicants can bring any relevant team member to present the project to the selection panel. The pitch session will be held online.
