Frequently Asked Questions
● What is the deadline for submitting the grant application?
○ The deadline for submitting your application is 7th February 2025.
● What are the eligibility criteria for applying for the grant?
○ Applicants must live and work in Kenya.
○ Applicants must be in the performing or creative arts industry in Kenya.
○ Projects should portray evidence and themes that speak to African cultures and/or history.
○ Applicants must have pre-ideated projects that are in the execution phase.
○ Works performed must be original.
● What types of projects are eligible for funding under this grant?
○ Projects eligible for funding are from the following value chains:
Theatre, Spoken work, poetry, storytelling, comedy, live music (vocal artists, instrumental, deejaying), puppetry/pantomime, dance, multimedia and transdisciplinary arts
● What is the maximum funding amount that can be expected from the grant?
○ Financial support up to 1,000,000 KE.
● In what currency will the grant be distributed?
○ The grant funds will be disbursed to successful applicants in Kenya Shillings.
○ Successful applicants will be required to open or hold dedicated KShs bank account for the funds.
● Will the funds be allocated in one go?
○ No, the funds will be disbursed in instalments according to the workplan. 20% upon completion of the project and submission of a financial and narrative report at the end.
● Are there any specific reporting requirements after receiving the grant?
○ Yes, successful applicants will be required to submit a mid-grant report a final financial and narrative report before disbursement of the final 20%.
○ Templates and reporting guidelines will be provided to guide successful applicants on how to create reports.
○ Give the project partners access to the full complement of financial information, transaction data, supporting documents for control and audit purposes.
● Can the grant funds be used for multiple phases of the project or only specific aspects?
○ The grant funds can be used for all activities that involve production and execution (touring) of the project as per your workplan.
● Are there any restrictions on the use of grant funds for certain expenses or activities?
○ Funds are restricted to production and touring expenses.
● Is there a specific timeframe within which the project needs to be completed?
○ This project is set for execution between April and September 2025.
○ A project workplan is required to be uploaded in the application.
● Can grant funds be used for international collaborations?
○ Grant funds are restricted to projects that are of African origin and created by Kenyan nationals.
● Is it possible to put in more than one application?
○ No. Only one application per applicant.

● Does my project have to be completed within the indicated timeline?
○ Yes. All project activities funded by the grant must be completed between April and September 2024.
● Does this grant allow for co-financing?
○ Yes, you may combine the grant with other funding sources. For accountability and reporting purposes, the grant funds will have to be held in a separate dedicated bank account.
● What is the format of the pitch process?
○ Applicants can bring any relevant team member to present the project to the selection panel. The pitch session will be held online.
