Projection
A creative project led by Jean-Pierre Bekolo that imagines a futuristic African city, inspired by the fictional world of Wakanda from the Black Panther universe. The project draws from the rich cultural heritage of Foumban, a historical city in Cameroon, and seeks to reframe African narratives by projecting Africa into a future without Western influence.
Un projet créatif dirigé par Jean-Pierre Bekolo qui imagine une ville africaine futuriste, inspirée de l’inivers fictif du Wakanda dans Black Panther. Ce projet puise dans la riche héritage culturel de Foumban, une ville historique du Cameroun, et cherche à reconfigurer les récits africains en projetant l’Afrique dans un avenir affranchi de toute influence occidentale.
Wanita leaves her home one morning, unaware that her morning prayer to the ancestors has initiated her journey to Dimsi, the land that cannot be seen. In search of a new identity, Wanita is propelled 150 years into the future, into a world dominated by immortals, where African cities have become gigantic megalopolises.
Un matin, Wanita quitte sa maison, sans se douter que sa prière matinale adressée aux ancêtres a déclenché son voyage vers Dimsi, le pays qu’on ne peut voir. En quête d’une nouvelle identité, Wanita est projetée 150 ans dans le futur, dans un monde dominé par des immortels, où les villes africaines sont devenues d’immenses mégalopoles.
